Tourists require a valid passport to rent a car, scooter or motorbike, and although it is rare for the police to undertake spot-checks for drivers licences, it is still recommended that you have one. We also advise that personal accident insurance is taken out prior to your holiday - just to be on the safe side. It is essential to wear a helmet when riding a scooter or motorbike and remember that in Thailand, people ride / drive on the left side of the road.
